Delnicki Supports School Resource Officers
September 11, 2020
SOUTH WINDSOR- As a Town Councilor, I worked with Chief Gary Tyler early in 1999 on the concept of having a school resource officer at South Windsor High. The initial reaction was tepid and then the Columbine School shooting happened on April 20, 1999. By August 1999, we had a school resource officer at the high school. Since then, we added a school resource officer at Timothy Edwards Middle School.
This program has been a success here in South Windsor. It’s hard to believe that there are politicians out there that want to eliminate school resource officers. The safety of our children is one of my highest priorities, and the parents and educators I have spoken to expressed feeling comforted by the presence of school resource officers in our school district.
