Rep. Delnicki: Statement of the Value of School Resource Officers

It’s hard to believe that there are some politicians out there that want to eliminate SRO’s. The safety of our children is one of my highest priorities and I am committed to the preservation of this program.

As a Town Councilor, I worked with Chief Gary Tyler early in 1999 on the concept of having a School Resource Officer at South Windsor High. The initial reaction was tepid and then the Columbine School shooting happened on April 20, 1999. By August 1999, we had a “SRO” at the High School and since then we added an SRO at Timothy Edwards Middle School. The SRO Program has been a success in South Windsor.
